A group legal plan is a fringe benefit that gives covered members and their families access to experienced legal representation for personal off-the-job legal matters while eliminating the high cost of hiring a lawyer.
The plans can be collectively bargained. In the Taft-Hartley context, the plan can be provided as an ancillary benefit of the health and welfare fund. Much like health insurance helps cover medical expenses, a group legal plan helps make quality legal services affordable and accessible. Eligible members can receive legal assistance with little or no out-of-pocket cost for covered matters.
For many hardworking families, an unexpected legal issue can create a difficult choice: pay thousands of dollars in legal fees or go without the help they need. Whether it’s a divorce, child support dispute, debt issue, landlord-tenant problem, or another personal legal matter, legal fees can quickly become overwhelming. A comprehensive Group Legal Plan removes that financial barrier to getting help and ensures members have access to professional legal support when they need it.
